Songs from Instant Star: Greatest Hits was released on September 22nd, 2009 in both Canada and the United States. The album was released as the final soundtrack from the Instant Star franchise, and as a collection of the most popular songs from the series. The soundtrack also features exclusive content not previously released.

- This soundtrack featured two official remixes, "Temporary Insanity (Remix)" and "Liar Liar (Remix.)" This marks the first and only time an Instant Star soundtrack included remixes of past songs. They are exclusive to this soundtrack.
- The duet version of "I Will Be the Flame," which features both Alexz Johnson and Cory Lee on vocals, appeared specifically due to popular demand. It is exclusive to this soundtrack.
- Alexz Johnson's version of "Perfect," despite appearing on the show during the fourth season, was not included on Songs from Instant Star 4 (Music from the Hit TV Show), making it an exclusive to this soundtrack. On the show's fourth season soundtrack, it was performed by Valerie Poxleitner (a.k.a. Lights.)
- "I Just Wanted Your Love" did not appear on on Songs from Instant Star 4 (Music from the Hit TV Show), despite appearing on the show during it's fourth season, making it an exclusive to this soundtrack.
- "Unraveling" was performed by Alexz Johnson on the show, but due to legal reasons revolving around her signing to Capitol Records, it was performed by Tyler Kyte on this soundtrack and on Songs from Instant Star 3 (Music from the Hit TV Show.)
- The digital release of this soundtrack's artwork differs from that of the physical release in that it lacks the words "Songs from" and "Greatest Hits." The physical release of this soundtrack's artwork includes these words.
- Songs from Instant Star: Greatest Hits is not currently available on the iTunes Store in both Canada and the United States.
- In the United States, this soundtrack was released on the same day as Songs from Instant Star 4 (Music from the Hit TV Show.)
